Wood Bin

bethany

Awhile back Michael and I went and picked up some free pallet wood, looking for cheap building materials, and also some firewood.  The great thing about pallets is that they're made of hardwood, and in some cases it's lovely pieces of oak or walnut or cedar.  You never know what you're going to get, but man does it smell great when you get to cutting or burning it!

We didn't take an entire pallet's worth, though the merits of trying to balance one and a half tons of wood in the back of a 3/4 ton pickup were debated ...

We spent a lot of time sorting, removing nails and staples, and figuring out what to save and what to burn.  The boys pitched in happily.

That was back in January, and the wood sat under the eaves, or a tarp, for the rest of the winter.  This past week the weather turned crazy warm, and we got the itch to do something outside, and while staring at the piles of fence and tree remains ...

... and Bobby's marked out space for his hoped-for firepit ...

... and the leftover sorted pallet wood, we decided to build an outdoor wood bin for fun.

Two enjoyable afternoons together produced this!

The last piece is to have the weather warm up a bit more so the boys can finish breaking down the fence pieces, and get them loaded in.
